Audits & Inspections

Carried out by Craig Davidson Grad IOSH MIIRSM, our health and safety audits give you an honest, independent view of where your business stands — and a clear action plan to put things right.

We audit against legal requirements and, where relevant, against recognised standards and client expectations. You get a written report, not a verbal debrief and a handshake.

What you receive

Following the audit, you will receive a written report that includes:

  • RAG-rated findings (Red / Amber / Green) so you can see at a glance what needs immediate attention
  • Each finding linked to the relevant legal requirement or standard
  • Recommended actions, with suggested priority and timescale
  • A summary suitable for sharing with your senior management or board

Reports are written in plain English. We’ll walk you through the findings by phone if you’d find that helpful.

Common reasons businesses book an audit

  • You’ve never had a formal audit and want to know where you actually stand
  • You’ve had a near miss or incident and want an independent review
  • A client or principal contractor is asking for evidence of your H&S management
  • You’re renewing insurance and your insurer is asking questions
  • Your business has grown and you’re not sure your existing arrangements have kept pace
  • You’re preparing for ISO 45001 or a similar certification

A Note on What We Find

Some businesses put off having an audit because they’re not sure they want to know the answer. That’s understandable — but an audit report is a tool to help you fix things, not a stick to beat you with.

If there are gaps, knowing about them means you can address them on your own terms. If something goes wrong without an audit having been done, the consequences are usually far worse.

Audits FAQ

Q: How long does an audit take?

A: That depends on the size of your business and the scope of the audit. A focused audit of a small single-site operation typically takes e.g. half a day on site plus report writing. We’ll give you a clear estimate before we start.

Q: Do you tell the HSE about anything you find?

A: No. We are engaged by you to audit your business. Our report goes to you, not to any regulator. The only exception would be if we encountered an imminent danger to life — in that case we would tell you and expect you to act immediately.

Q: How often should I have an audit done?

A: There’s no fixed legal requirement for how often you need an independent audit, but for most businesses an annual or biennial audit is sensible. More frequently if your work changes significantly or if you’ve had an incident.

Q: Can you audit against a specific client’s H&S requirements?

A: Yes. If a client has sent you a pre-qualification questionnaire or audit framework, we can work to that. Send us the criteria and we’ll advise whether we can cover it.
