Thorough Risk Assessments for North East Businesses

A risk assessment isn’t just a legal requirement — it’s how you identify what could actually hurt someone in your workplace before it does. We write risk assessments that reflect the real work you do, not copied templates padded out to look impressive.

What is a Risk Assessment?

A Risk Assessment is a systematic process of identifying hazards in the workplace and evaluating the level of risk they pose. It's not just about compliance; it's the foundation of all effective health and safety management.

Our assessments dig deep to find the specific dangers in your work environment, whether they come from operating machinery, handling substances (COSHH), manual handling, or workstation setup (DSE).

Types of risk assessment we produce

Types of Risk Assessment We Produce

  • General workplace risk assessments
  • Manual handling
  • Display screen equipment (DSE)
  • COSHH (hazardous substances)
  • Fire risk assessments (FRA) — referral to specialist if full FRA required
  • Lone working
  • Contractor and site-specific assessments
  • Task-specific assessments for higher-risk activities

Not sure which one you need? Call and describe the work — we’ll advise you.

Who Is This For?

Any employer has a legal duty to carry out a ‘suitable and sufficient’ risk assessment under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. If you have any employees at all — including part-time, casual or subcontracted workers — this applies to you.

We work with:

  • Businesses getting their first risk assessments written
  • Companies whose existing documents are out of date or inadequate
  • Contractors who need site-specific or task-specific documents quickly
  • Businesses preparing for client or insurer audits

What to Expect

We keep the process straightforward:

  1. You tell us about your work — a short phone call or email is usually enough to start
  2. We carry out a site visit if needed, or work from the information you provide
  3. You receive finished, proportionate documentation — ready to use and easy to understand

Most risk assessments are completed within 7 working days. Urgent jobs can often be turned around faster — just ask.

Risk Assessments FAQ

Q: Does a risk assessment need to be written down?

A: If you employ five or more people, yes — it must be documented. If you have fewer than five employees, you still need to carry out the assessment, but you are not legally required to record it. In practice, having it written down protects you if something goes wrong.

Q: How often do risk assessments need to be reviewed?

A: There is no fixed legal interval, but they must be reviewed when there is a significant change to the work, when something goes wrong, or when there is reason to think they may no longer be valid. A sensible default is annual review.

Q: Can’t I just download a template?

A: You can, but a generic template that doesn’t reflect your actual workplace or work activities is unlikely to be ‘suitable and sufficient’ under the law. If you’re inspected or something goes wrong, a poorly completed generic document can make things worse, not better.

Q: Do you visit the site?

A: For most risk assessments, a site visit produces a far more accurate document. We’ll advise you whether a visit is needed or whether we can work remotely based on what you tell us.
